finally, the weather has been very nice and we've been able to fit in a lot of backyard pool time. we've been growing butterflies at home the past couple of weeks (you get the caterpillars in the mail, they turn into cocoons and then open up to butterflies - that's the tube net thing alex is holding, it's the butterfly sanctuary), and it was time to set them free. here's alex opening the sanctuary for the butterflies (probably scaring the hell out of them) and cheering them on with "you can do it, butterflies." most of them flew out and were hanging out with the pansies afterward. one didn't quite make it, but was laying on the grass and alex kept trying to make it feel better by bringing the dead butterfly all her balls (her playground ball, soccer ball, etc.) and laying them around the butterfly. the other funny thing that alex has started doing since john's been out of town is turning on the charm as a manipulation tool. when i tell her she can't have something, she's been turning her head to the side and repeating "please, please mommy, please" over and over again in her sweetest little voice. of course, whenever she gets in trouble and needs a time out or something she immediately starts screaming for daddy to come save her or "daddy, eioudemay" (i really have no idea how to spell that word, but it's the spanish word for help).
