letting the butterflies go

we grew butterflies again this year - i think this is the 3rd year now. all 5 caterpillar hatched, even though at least one of them looked damaged (torn wings.) the first time we tried to let them go only one left while the others couldn't figure out how to fly properly or how to get out of the netted tube. it may have been too hot or just too soon for them, we don't know, but we brought them back inside, fed them some pansies with sugar water and waited another day. so john and alex tried again the next day and this time the rest of the 4 flew away. and i guess each one stopped to land on alex's finger first before taking off. i guess they liked all the cheerleading she provided them the day before "Go Harold and Timmy, you can do it!" i can't remember the other names she gave them. alex also rode her bike a lot this week and worked in the garden and cleaned her room. she had a full week.
