john was lucky enough, thanks to matthew, to be able to go to the daytona 500! and jimmie johnson won! so, alex and i had a girls' weekend, with one boy, carter. we got some stuff done, but we also got to babysit carter for part of saturday. alex was thrilled, of course, and very helpful. carter is so easy and happy. we got our mexican food fix in too. sunday, we got more stuff done, and alex built a chair fort and we watched tinkerbell. we also did her homework, which is taking up quite a chunk of time now - wow. although, it's working; she knows a lot of words now and can sound out quite a few words that she doesn't know immediately on sight. it's impressive. she also did some math - not homework, she just enjoys writing down numbers in one of her notebooks and adding them together. we did some origami together as well, and brainstormed alex's halloween costume as well as her next birthday party - which will be smaller this year with just a few girl friends (that's the plan at least.) we did catch bits of the daytona 500 just to see what john was watching - and trying to catch a replay of that wreck on saturday that sent some fans to the hospital! john and matthew were okay :)
