elephants and monkeys and snakes, oh my!

what a busy weekend it was for alex - well, for all of us. saturday we had gymnastics class, then straight to the circus, a very short nap, then lunch, a dress-up birthday party, and finally boo at the zoo. gymnastics was fun, as usual. the circus was a real treat - we got there an hour early because you can go down on the floor and be close to the clowns and such (that wasn't as exciting at it sounds, but it was kind of neat.) then the show...alex loved it. she wasn't scared at all. she really enjoyed the elephants. she liked the clowns and motorcycle riders, but especially all the animals, including dogs and horses. she was dancing and clapping the whole time too (she really liked the upbeat hip-hop type music.) she fell asleep at intermission - so that's when we made our exit (we didn't think we'd even make it that long) - but we will definitely revisit the circus next year. the funniest part of the day was when we got alex into her costume before the birthday party. i grabbed a banana for her to use as a prop while we took some pictures - she immediately ripped it open and chowed down the whole banana - we got some great pics. the birthday party was chaotic - and we didn't stay long since we were going to boo at the zoo. so, the zoo was fun, but not as exciting as the circus had been. we went to an animal show when we first got there and there was this huge boa constrictor - alex really liked that - she kept telling mommy and daddy about the snake (while she'd make the sign for it.) she did not like the dressed up characters like the energizer bunny and such - i think she was ok if you could still see the person's face, but otherwise it was pretty scary. it was a long exhausting day, and alex was out cold by 7 pm (which led to me and alex watching cartoons in bed at 2 in the morning because she woke back up.) i think she's still recouperating today - we will not plan that much in one day again, but she loved it all (we just need to spread out the fun from now on.)
