bowling and swings 'n' things

it was a pretty full weekend for alex. and i got some stuff done. and john caught a big fish (in spite of the freezing temps.) alex is getting closer to her first mark on her belt at tae kwon do. her drum teacher was telling me how smart she is and how she really learns how to read the music quickly. saturday, we went bowling with uncle matt, aunt sarah and cousin carter. carter got a strike his first time up - and then promptly tried running down the alley! alex had a great time and with the gutter guards up we all bowled in the same general point range, including alex. sunday, alex had a play date with her friend, abby. john took them to swings 'n' things where they got to play on the jungle gym; play some arcade; bowl, arcade style; and eat ice-cream. they came back to the house to play and craft and dress-up for a bit. then, after the playdate, we crafted a last minute school project. alex was to use a can and make her favorite storybook character; she chose the grinch who stole christmas. alex helped cut out the felt pieces and choose some plastic eyes (yes, i have a whole bag of plastic cartoon eyes that i got from work) and make design decisions, while i ran the hot glue gun. i think he turned out really cute and she's excited to turn him in (i think it's a right to read week contest, so we'll see how she does. i think they all get displayed in the library, so that's fun.)
