some more info

Okay, so I wanted to give some background on this beautiful little girl. Alex was born on New Year's Day at 10:58 am in 2007. It was a long labor with a few complications, but we got there and she turned out wonderfully - that first picture is of Alex on the day she was born. Then jump forward to the next picture which was taken recently and she is now 19 months old! Yes, she looks like she's been crying, but she was working on growing some teeth and was jumping between emotions quite often - as you can see by the giant smile with wet tears still visible.

What a year and a half it's been. What a great baby, Alex was too - she slept well, ate well, didn't cry often (we were able to go out to restaurants still), smiles all the time, and is so full of character. She learned to crawl around 8 months, but by 10 months she was working on walking and had started running by the time she turned 1. She was a finalist in a photo contest for cutest baby photo in the Plain Dealer. She goes to daycare right around the corner from our house, and she loves it there. She has friends, learns a lot, and gets to play a whole bunch. She seems to really enjoy meals there - they keep telling me how happy she is whenever the meal cart comes around.

Some of Alex's favorite things are: animals, music, dancing, chocolate, peas, water, books, Caillou and Elmo. She knows baby signs - especially the animals. She knows all the usual body parts, nose, ears, toes, etc. She can say quite a few words - we think we're up around 50 now, and she's learning to combine them too. She can say please and thank you, which is really nice. A recent word she picked up was Chubby (which is what we call our cat). She knows everyone's names in the family - even though she might shy up and not say your name to you. She is incredibly shy, but a total ham once she warms up. She loves to pose for photos too - as that's probably easy to tell from all her smiling pictures. She loves to be outside - oh and she recently learned how to say outside. Which is great until you want her to go back inside - then the fight begins. She loves baths - and that used to be a fight to get out, but she's gotten really good about getting out now when it's time. She's in the full size tub now - but it is equipped with padded walls. She brushes her teeth all by herself - she doesn't want any help - she's very good at it too, but still has some improving to do.

Alex has been up to the house in Canada 4 times now - twice last year and twice more this year. Last year, on our second visit up, Alex got a huge fever from the shots she had a couple weeks earlier, and so we had to fight that off while on vacation in order to avoid the wonderful hospital system of Canada. This year, Alex was quite healthy and old enough to enjoy Canada. When we first got there this year she kept pointing at the water and yelling "WA WA, WA WA", then she'd point down the lake and do it again. She got to get in the water some, but the weather could have been better. Next year I'm sure she'll be swimming up a storm.

I can't think of anything in particular to add at this time, so that's all for now.

thanks
